Once a Month Cooking saves you time and money. As a single mother, saving money is what I spend most of my time thinking about, and I can save both with OAMC! OAMC saves time and money in lots of ways and I would like to share my top 7 of those with you.
- My biggest time saving happens on a daily basis, when I don't have to consider what it for dinner each night, nor do I have to prepare it, I simply pop my frozen meal into the oven. I'm not talking about some frozen ready meal that is full of fat, carbohydrates and calories either, these are healthy, nutritionally balanced meals that I have already prepared and frozen.
- I also save time by not having to run to the supermarket several times a week, when I have "nothing" in the house for dinner.
- On the money saving side, buying in bulk is always less expensive that buying things one at a time. Places like warehouse clubs will sell to at significantly less than your local store. The correct term for it is "economy of scale".
- Due to the significant reduction in trips to the supermarket, money is saved by not being exposed to the "impulse" purchases that supermarkets rely on to boost their profits. If you don't see them, you can't buy them - and do you know what? My life is non the poorer for not having bought them!
- I no longer spend money at the take away shops in a last ditch attempt to get dinner on the table when my family are starving and I have nothing "quick" in the house, because I always do. And my kids prefer my cooking to fast food.
- I save money on fuel as I don't have to run to the super market and/or take away - so this aspect of OAMC saves me time and money - perfect!
- Finally, a large saving comes from not having to throw away and replace food that has gone bad, or out of date. I often ended up throwing away lots of food that we just didn't get to in time. Not any more...
